Sweet Loretta Fat, she thought she was a cleaner, but she was a frying pan.

I'm currently suffering from blog block. It's not that I can't think of things to write. It's that I can't think of things to write when I have the time to sit and write. Bit of a bummer really. Especially when my blog is approaching 3000 hits.

So here's some randomness...

Thanks to my little brother, I now have all of the Beatles' albums. They all fit on my 2G iPod nano. With lots of room to spare.

I was listening to Beatles tunes while following the Australia-England one day cricket match on Sunday. Fittingly, the song "Help!" came on half way through England's innings. It didn't help them.

"'I dig a pygmie' by Charles Hortree and the Deaf Aids" is the opening line to which album? (Little brother you're not eligible to answer.)

Who played lead guitar on "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"? I know the answer. Do you?

Twenty years ago I was a graduate (postgraduate) student. My research involved long computer simulations. I used the university mainframe. It filled a large room and had disk drives that looked like oversized washing machines. My current PDA fits in my pocket. It is faster and has more memory than that mainframe.

And finally, do any of you know someone who owns a Zune? I've seen them in stores, but never one out in the wild.

Word of the post:

magniloquent \mag-NIL-uh-kwent\
-adjective

Lofty or grandiose in speech or expression; using a high-flown style of discourse; bombastic.

Clapton played lead on While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

You knew I'd know that... ;o)

I didn't know that but that is who I would have guessed...it has his sound and George's soul (no surprise there!!!)

I spent too much time on alternative music to become much of a Beatles fan

Ding! DIng! DIng! We have a winner on question 2!!! And yes, I knew DocStymie would know that one. A friend of mine in high school was devastated when she found out it wasn't George. I'm not sure why - the Beatles used all kinds of fill-in musicians right from their first album on.

JollyRgr, for some years the Beatles were alternative!

Let's get back to question one. What about "I dig a pygmie"? A further clue: The phrase ends with "Stage one, in which Doris gets her oats."

Odyssey said...

Slight correction. It's "Phase one, in which Doris gets her oats."

JollyRgr said...

Yes thats true but neither of us can claim to be old enough to have considered them truly alternative when they were.

In answer to your question....I have no idea and I shall not cheat by Googling it!

It's a great shame that I can't contribute to this discussion! :-(

I fancy our pancake eating sibling could answer question no. 1.

Glad you're enjoying the CDs!

Two more clues:

The album ends with the quip "Thank you very much on behalf of the band and ourselves, and we hope we passed the audition."

The title of this blog post is also on this album. Comes right before a song whose two-word title actually appears in my first comment to this post.

Little bro, you can answer the question after six this evening (your time) if no one has got it right by then.

Final hints then I'll let it be. There's a movie associated with the album. It's neither the cartoon, nor the bad acid trip.

"Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be, there will be an answer, LET IT BE"

Odyssey said...

Ding! Ding! Ding! A winner at last! Let It Be it is! Little bro predicted it - the pancake muncher wins!

Okay, so who can name all of The Beatles' movies? The ones they made, not the ones made about them. And how many have you actually seen?

Goose said...

Congratulations Mouthfulofpancakes! I knew you could do it!

Congratulations also to Odyssey, for being the first of the siblings to have a post reach 10 comments! (Though your final hint was a bit corny!)

I'll count myself out of the movie question, as I happened to see the list of Beatles movies while I was looking something else up! I can tell you I haven't watched any of them!

mouthfulofpancake said...

I have only seen Yellow Submarine. But, there is also "Help", "A hard day's night" and .......

Odyssey said...

There are five in total. Mouthfulofpancakes got the first three. The title of number five appears earlier in the comments and number four is the bad acid trip.

mouthfulofpancake said...

Let it Be was about them.... so ummm.. was one Sgt.Pepper??

Goose said...

Come on 'cakes! You should get the last one... It's easy! If you don't get it then they really should take you away, take you away...

Jeff Seale said...

the other Beatles movie was Magical Mystery Tour.

Odyssey said...

Correct! A Hard Days Night, Help!, Yellow Submarine, Magical Mystery Tour, and Let It Be. And if you haven't seen any of them, shame on you. Run down to your local video store or log onto Netflix pronto. Everyone should see Magical Mystery Tour - it's enough to make you swear to never, never, never do drugs.

Thanks one and all for participating in the first ever Pondering Blather Beatles Trivia Contest!

JollyRgr said...

As a late note:-
After claiming general Beatles ignorance I have just realised that I've seen all 5 movies, 3 of them more than once. Does that make me a 'closet fan'???

And Magical Mystery Tour makes them very alternative!!!!

have you seen me grandfather?

Odyssey said...

And who was the walrus?

[Okay, that was a blatant effort to get 20 comments...]

Goose said...

George?

mouthfulofpancake said...

Paul!!!

Odyssey said...

Supposedly Paul, but I could hav sworn when I saw the movie that it was John...

Randomly googled "sweet Loretta Fat..." and found your blog. I love the Beatles and quite enjoyed reading these posts on your blog.
